Book Review: Off the Record (Record #1) by K.A. Linde

Off the Record (Record, #1)Off the Record by K.A. Linde

Blurb:

Liz Dougherty has no idea a single question is about to change her life.

Her first big reporting assignment for her North Carolina college newspaper has her covering a state senator’s impromptu press conference. Brady Maxwell may have everything it takes to be a politician—a winning pedigree, devastating good looks, a body made to wear suits—but his politics rub Liz the wrong way. When Liz’s hard-hitting question catches the upstart senator off-guard, it impresses Hayden Lane, Liz’s editor who feels she’s headed for a promising career as a reporter.

But Liz is also headed into a secret romance with Brady that could destroy both their ambitions. Though he’s a bachelor, potential voters might frown on Brady cozying up to a reporter. And Liz isn’t sure sneaking around is enough for her—especially when things between her and Hayden might be less platonic than she thought.

Sleek, sexy, and smart, Off the Record ventures into a high-stakes campaign and an even higher-stakes affair to answer the question: When politics and love collide, can there ever be a winner?

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

2.5 to a low 3 stars

Now that I’ve had time to think things over, I think I may not be so willing to read the sequel of Off the Record. This is my first K.A. Linde book and judging by people’s reviews of her Avoiding series, she definitely loves her angst. But I don’t and I try to stay away from love triangles (so I wonder why I even picked this up in the first place).

Actually, I thought the premise was really interesting. I do appreciate a good book with a politician MC and I’ve read several, so I am quite familiar with the whole forbidden aspect of it.

Book Review: Just One Night (Sex, Love & Stiletto #3) by Lauren Layne

Just One Night (Sex, Love & Stiletto, #3)Just One Night by Lauren Layne

Blurb:

In Lauren Layne’s sizzling Sex, Love & Stiletto series, New York’s hottest “sexpert” has been living a lie—and it’s up to one man to keep her honest…all night long.

Riley McKenna knows sex—good sex, bad sex, kinky sex…Her articles inStiletto magazine are consistently the publication’s most scandalous—and the most read. But Riley has a secret…all that sexy talk? Not an ounce of it comes from personal experience. Her own bedroom escapades are more limited than even her best friends know. When her editor requests that all columnists write something more personal forStiletto’s anniversary issue, Riley turns to the one man she’s always been able to count on and calls in the favor of a lifetime.

Sam Compton would do anything for Riley McKenna. Anything except be her experimental sex toy. He refuses her request. At least until she tells him that it’ll either be him or she’ll go to someone else. And that, Sam can’t accept. Reluctantly he agrees to her terms—one night of completely meaningless sex in the name of research. Riley thinks she’s prepared for what awaits her in Sam’s bed. After ten years of writing about sex, actually doing it shouldn’t be that different, right? So wrong. What starts as “one time only” becomes “just one more time.” And then one more. And before they know it, Riley and Sam learn first-hand that when it comes to love, there’s no such thing as just one night.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’ve read every single one of Lauren Layne‘s books and I love them all. However, if I have to be really honest, out of the three Stiletto books, this was the weakest for me. I think maybe I expected more from Riley‘s story because ever since After the Kiss, she’s been portrayed as the “badass of the group” and I was really hoping that I would see more of her snarky personality. Disappointingly, I didn’t get that but I did love her very strong resolve regarding her feelings. Also, the sarcasm was sadly a bit toned down this time.

All in all, this was still a good weekend read and I can’t wait for Alex and Emma‘s book – I’m assuming there is one.

Book Review: Out of Turn (Kathleen Turner #4) by Tiffany Snow

Out of Turn (Kathleen Turner, #4)Out of Turn by Tiffany Snow

Blurb:

Breaking up is hard to do, as Kathleen Turner discovers. After a falling-out with her ex, high-powered attorney Blane Kirk, she’s moving on the best she can. Unfortunately, someone from her past is set on revenge and nothing short of killing Kathleen will stop them.

Keeping his brother’s ex-girlfriend alive isn’t something new to assassin-for-hire Kade Dennon, but this time can he protect her from himself? She’s a woman he can’t convince himself to walk away from, no matter what it costs him.

Regret is a constant companion for Blane as he realizes the truth behind the lies he’s been told. Can love heal the past, or can some mistakes not be undone?

Murder reunites Blane, Kade, and Kathleen as the police put Blane in their crosshairs. Blane may lose everything unless he and Kade can find the real murderer before it’s too late. But if they can’t set aside their love for the same woman and work together, it will tear them apart.

In Out of Turn, Kathleen is caught between two warring brothers, and the consequences may be fatal.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’m just SO OVERWHELMED right now. I don’t really know what to say or think, especially after that little preview of Point of No Return. Sigh. This is exactly why I detest reading about love triangles so much! Though I must admit that this is absolutely one of my favorite series ever. Pretty ironic, actually…

Honestly, I’m still at a loss for words. All I know for sure is that six months is a really long time. That’s how long I have to wait to find out who Kat will choose. 😦

For fans of Fifty Shades of Grey and Bared to You comes a tempting new novel of secrets, lies, and redeeming passion.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The first book was interesting and fun but this one was a letdown. The writing was still great – sassy and sexy as ever – but it was shockingly SHORT! I just don’t get it. Did I miss the memo that this was going to be a novella or something?
