Book Review: Ashes to Ashes (Experiment in Terror #8) by Karina Halle

Ashes to Ashes (Experiment in Terror, #8)Ashes to Ashes by Karina Halle

It’s been two months since Perry Palomino and Dex Foray’s relationship reached a new turning point, two months since Perry started a new life in Seattle, and two months since their Experiment in Terror show took on a new partner, ex-Wine Babe Rebecca Sims, and found a new level of success. But whenever there is light in their lives, the madness still has a way of coming back in.

When the team is sent back to the stormy Oregon coast to investigate a haunted school, Perry wants to use the opportunity to reconnect with her family and reintroduce Dex into their lives. Only Perry’s not the only one who’s reaching out – her grandmother Pippa has started appearing to her with disturbing warnings and Perry’s presence at the school has ignited a chilling new wave of supernatural phenomenon. Once used a century ago as a sanatorium to house children dying of tuberculosis, the school’s past residents are slowly coming back to life and with one thing on their mind. They want someone to play with, someone to join them. Forever.

Even when dead, some children get whatever they want.

And they want Perry.

Well, now. Just when I thought it was a tiny, tiny bit anticlimactic, THAT ending happened! How I wish that in a blink of an eye, May is upon us. Sigh.

Book Review: The Plan by Qwen Salsbury

The PlanThe Plan by Qwen Salsbury

Day of Employment: 358

10:15 a.m.

Location: Cubicles outside Canon’s office.

Co-workers: Betting on how long Canon’s new PA will last.

Me: No doubts. Ms. Gum-smacker won’t last the day. I need to place my bet.

Manolo Blahnik’s New Fall Shoes: Mine. As soon as Madeline hands over my winnings.

Emma Baker has never spoken a word to Alaric Canon, nor has he to her. But she’s studied him every day across the office tundra for almost a year. Canon is hard and fierce, terrifying and beautiful. He’s also the most stern, unforgiving person Emma has ever seen. Emma’s co-workers run a betting pool for Canon’s Personal Assistant terminations. There’s a separate pot for the day one leaves without crying. Not likely…Canon made a former Navy SEAL cry.

He has high standards and low tolerance. Everyone knows it. Everyone stays away. Everyone who can, that is. Except Emma. She can’t look away. Alaric Canon is the single most attractive man she’s ever seen. Bar none.

Canon has never noticed her. Not once in almost a year. She’s not even a blip on his radar. But she will be. His radar will be blipless no more.

It is a goal. Emma has a plan.

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

I was so close to DNF-ing but I wanted to know how it would end, if it would at least get better – it didn’t – so I resorted to skimming through practically half of the book.

So I liked the premise. Office romance. Asshole boss. Snarky employee. I even liked how it was written, sort of. I mean I get how it was supposed to read like a prose but I didn’t quite get it. I usually love smart and witty books but this sounded too highfalutin that it just felt flat and forced. Really disappointing.

Cover Reveal: He Belongs With Me by Sarah Darlington

So, I know that you shouldn’t judge the book by its cover but this is definitely one of those times when I am totally judging the book by its cover! It’s GORGEOUS!

He Belongs With Me by Sarah Darlington

Two girls. One Leo.

Identical twins, Maggie and Clara Ryder, both grew up with Leo Maddox, billionaire playboy, apparent alcoholic, and heir to his grandfather’s world-famous Maddox hotel empire. Their roles were cemented long ago: Maggie, as his best friend and Clara as his childhood nemesis.

But when a simple twist of fate changes everything and both girls start to fall for the lean, mean, ridiculously sexy and seemingly spoiled Leo… which girl will win his heart?

Throw in a little mischief, drama, and one smoking-hot bartender and lines are sure to blur. But one thing’s for certain, neither good-girl Maggie nor rebellious Clara will be satisfied until they each figure out where they belong.

OK, I’m told He Belongs With Me by Sarah Darlington is a standalone and though it may sound like it’s a love triangle, it kind of isn’t. Hmm, well, as long as there’s no cheating and has a HEA, I’m all for it. Also, after reading that synopsis, I CAN’T WAIT!

But since we do have to wait as it won’t be released until March 4, here’s a little teaser:

Book Review: Connected by the Sea (Hawaiian Crush #1) by E.L. Todd

Connected by the Sea (Hawaiian Crush, #1)Connected by the Sea by E.L. Todd

Living in paradise, Sydney loves her job, her friends, and her passion for marine biology. Her best friend, Henry, has an invested interest in her, but Sydney never seems to notice. While Henry is the perfect man, she only dates the wrong guys. Her ex-boyfriend cheated on her, broke her heart, and now she’s too shattered to give anyone a chance.

Until Coen…

A sexy bad boy with a tattoo, he elicits dark desires Sydney hasn’t felt in so long. His intense eyes, the color of the sea, capture her sight, making it impossible to look away. She tries to avoid him, knowing he’s no good for her, but Coen, who always gets what he wants, doesn’t take no for an answer.

Will Sydney regret this decision? Or will she find what’s been missing her entire life? The family she lost, the loves she misses, and the trust she never thought she could have for someone else?

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I’m afraid Dex and Perry have ruined me for others. I’ve been reading the EIT series for the past couple of weeks now so picking this up as a breather may not have been the best idea.

Connected by the Sea is your typical sweet NA read. Set in Hawaii, Sydney is a smart Marine Biology student who has a ‘troubled past’ – naturally – and she was cheated on by her ex-boyfriend. She’s loyal to her friends and because of that, it creates drama for her as she’s attracted to – of course – bad boy, Coen while her best friend, Henry, is in love with her.

The thing is, I really don’t mind reading the same old cliche storyline, as long as it works. This book has potential but I have a few issues with it, thus, my 3-star rating.

Cover Reveal: Here Lies Love by Dan Thompson

I admit that I’m a big romance fan but reading the same old clichéd storylines over and over again tends to get old sometimes. Trust me, it really does. So I go through different phases, depending on my mood, just like most readers I believe. Also, indulging in too much sweetness isn’t so healthy for the brain that is why I would usually go for meatier content every so often.

Now, what makes me so excited about Here Lies Love is that it’s definitely different. It’s a YA/NA thriller by Dan Thompson and I’m quite curious about this genre. I mean, I do love to read thrillers and I obviously love New Adult so I’m looking forward to seeing the outcome.

But since we have to wait a little bit for its release this coming April 2014, here is a special preview of its gorgeous cover which I personally love. It’s the kind of cover that can immediately catch someone’s attention, and It also means that the author put a lot of thought into the whole process. I really appreciate that. What do YOU think?
